Swell Surf recently took a surf trip to check out the surf in Sayulita and Punta de Mita. Just a short 2 1/2 flight from LAX, it’s a fantastic place to enjoy being in warm water, particularly when the water in the States has turned cold. We even got in some scuba diving.
The town of Sayulita is a non stop party, but Punta de Mita has a mellower vibe and some good restaurants. We surfed with the amazing Tranquilo surf and they helped us score whatever little waves we could find around La Lancha or Bahia. Long boards were the order of the day, and Tranquilo has beautiful boards to rent, including several from Donald Takayama. We love watching the sunset on a surfboard just about any place in the world, and this sunset did not disappoint.
We stayed at the gorgeous Conrad Punta Mita Centrally located in Mita on a beautiful stretch of beach, we were wowed by the service and attention to detail. There are several dining options and we enjoyed them all. They even prepared a special dinner on the beach one evening.
Our favorite place in town was Mina, both for its delicious fresh food and fun atmosphere.
